Gatherd's one rule: done is better than perfect. The whole app is designed so you can dump what happened in plain English (or speak it, or snap a photo) and we sort it out.
The brain dump
Type or speak into the box on your dashboard. Try sentences like:
- "ate 2 eggs and toast for breakfast, spent $12 at Starbucks, walked 30 min"
- "slept 7 hours, took my vitamins, energy is a 4"
- "grocery run, $87"
We send it to Claude, get back structured items, show you a confirmation card. Edit anything that looks off, hit Close enough — log it, and we update your dashboard.
Photo logging
Tap the 📷 camera to snap a meal or 📎 to attach one from your library. Tips for accurate estimates:
- Include a scale reference — a fork, a hand, a quarter on the plate. Without it, calorie estimates can be off by 30%+.
- Add a sentence of context — "split this with my sister", "Chipotle burrito bowl", "side plate not dinner plate".
- Shoot from above when the dish is flat (salads, pizza). Shoot from the side when there's height (burgers, smoothies).
- If something is packaged, say so + the brand. The model can pull from known nutrition data.
If the estimate seems off
On the confirmation card you can:
- Edit the calorie and macro numbers inline — type the real number in.
- Tap Seems high — re-estimate or Seems low — re-estimate. We'll ask 1–2 follow-up questions about portion or prep, then refine.
- Tap Show breakdown on any meal to see what each component contributed. The breakdown is for your eyes only — we log the meal as one line.
Goals
During onboarding we suggest a calorie number using Mifflin-St Jeor + your activity level. You can also pick "Just observe for a week" and we'll suggest a goal from what you actually averaged — way more accurate for most people than starting with a textbook number.
Macros default to a Balanced split (25P / 45C / 30F) but you can switch to High-protein, Keto, Low-carb, Low-fat, Mediterranean, or fully custom in Settings → Macro targets.
Streak + commits
The streak grows by 1 each day you tap both "Done eating" and "Done spending." Going slightly over your calorie target doesn't break it — thecommitment to stop is the win, not the perfect number.
Data + privacy
We don't sell or share your data. Photos are processed in the moment and discarded — not stored. Delete your account and we wipe everything within 30 days. Full details on our privacy page.
Tips for accurate logging
- Estimate amounts — "2 cups pasta" beats "pasta".
- Note prep — fried vs. grilled, butter vs. olive oil, lean vs. regular ground beef.
- Round up rather than down on portions you're unsure of. Better to slightly overstate calories than understate them.
- Log right after, not at end of day. Memory fades fast.
- Don't agonize. Close enough is the whole product.
